Epilepsy Smart Medical research collaboration with eMind and Tohoku University

Announcement

Otsuka Pharmaceutical, K.K. eMind and Tohoku University announced Phase II of the Epilepsy Smart Medical collaborative research project. The release says the project applies eMind's AI prediction technology to epilepsy and that its objective is to support patients through digital devices and AI. Otsuka joined Phase II in April 2025.

AAVid gene-therapy collaboration with Shape TX

Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Shape TX announced a multi-target collaboration to develop intravitreally delivered AAVs for ocular diseases. The release describes Shape TX's AI-driven AAVid platform as combining screening of billions of AAV variants with machine learning to identify novel capsids, and says Shape TX is eligible for payments potentially exceeding $1.5 billion.
